Key Elements to Successful Performance Test Analysis and Reporting

Performance testing is an engineering practice whose value is bound by not only the technical aptitude but also the communication skills of the engineers designing the tests and reporting the findings. One of the most common pitfalls of performance testing efforts occurs at the analysis and reporting phase be it documented or articulated. Performance test reports need to address a wide range of audiences (technical and business alike), provide actionable information and relevant data to help drive tuning and address performance objectives. Failure to effectively communicate and report findings is a common occurrence even with seasoned engineers. If performance findings are miss-communicated, it could results in:

  • Valuable testing effort being disregarded or mistrusted,
  • Misrepresentation of actual findings,
  • Wrong extrapolations and assumptions
  • Confusion and frustration of developers and stakeholders
  • Analysis reports raising more questions than answers.

Join me in this session as we will explore key elements to performance test analysis and reporting, communication of actionable information, Dos and Don’ts and some examples.

You will leave this session with an understanding of:

  • A performance analysis methodology
  • The attributes for effective performance analysis and visualization
  • Recommendations for reporting and communicating performance data into actionable information
  • Common mistakes to avoid
